Book review: Professional ASP.NET MVC 1.0

Professional ASP.NET MVC 1.0 (Wrox Programmer to Programmer)

ISBN: 0470384611
ISBN-13: 9780470384619

After a short break I finished reading 'Professional ASP.NET MVC 1.0' from Rob Connery, Scott Hanselman, Phil Haack and Scott Guthrie. As I expected it is written in a very handy way. You can read all the chapters without getting bored of too theoretical parts. It's like reading a novel but you get the facts in mind without reading parts two or three times.

The first chapter is a complete walkthrough of the sample application (nerddinner.com). As you are new to MVC it is the right choice to get into it. Step by step without too many theory. The other chapters are providing then a closer look into the theory of MVC.

Therefore that I have worked with the MVC Framework since Beta Preview 2 I didn't expect to find really many new things, but I got a better understanding of some parts of the framework. For me I got about 5-10% new things out of the book, but from about 20-30% of the book I got a better understanding cause of the very good explanations.

Conclusion

If you are new to the MVC Framework this book is a must read. If you have some experiences with the MVC Framework it gives you the knowledge you are searching for. For me it is a 4 stars out of 5.
